A Changing of the Guard

A Changing of the Guard

This year's Washington chapter board retreat brought mixed emotions as my esteemed co-chair, Cameron Lankhaar, shared his decision to step down from his position. Cameron has been a cornerstone of our chapter's leadership, embodying a deep passion for Backcountry Hunters and Anglers and a relentless dedication to preserving our natural resources. His selfless commitment to the chapter's needs has been unwavering, making him not only an exemplary representation of our values but also a cherished friend. I have been truly honored to serve alongside him and learn from his wisdom.

Service on this board demands a profound devotion, and Cameron has exemplified this with every moment he has sacrificed away from his family and outdoor pursuits to advance our mission. His tireless efforts behind the scenes have been instrumental in our chapter's success and the preservation of our outdoor heritage in Washington state. At the same time, Cameron has often been the very heart of our board, never letting us lose sight of why we fight- for our heritage, natural places, families, and each other.

While Cameron's departure leaves big shoes to fill, we are fortunate that he will continue to contribute his expertise as our secretary. Meanwhile, I am delighted to announce Josh Wilund as our new co-chair. Josh's strategic acumen and deep understanding of natural resource policy will be invaluable assets as we navigate the challenges ahead. His leadership will be pivotal in safeguarding our wildlife and public lands against threats in Olympia and beyond.

Change in leadership brings fresh perspectives and opportunities for growth. I am confident that with Josh stepping into this role, our chapter will continue to thrive and remain a steadfast advocate for our values and way of life. It is one of the greatest honors of my life to serve alongside him and all members of our board- the best of our BHA community and fearless conservationists. As we honor Cameron's legacy and welcome Josh, I invite you to join us at our upcoming Washington state Rendezvous on June 8th. Let's raise a toast to these outstanding individuals—true sportsmen, leaders, and advocates—who embody the very essence of BHA, while we celebrate our public lands together!

See you in the field,

Dan Wilson
